Good Neighbor Policy, Agoura Hills

The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation is a private family foundation established in 1944 by hotelier, Conrad N. Hilton. In his last will and testament, Conrad Hilton stated that his foundation would help “relieve the suffering of the distressed and destitute, without regard to race, religion or country.” Following this directive, the Foundation’s primary mission is to “Improve the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable people throughout the world.” The great majority of our funding is devoted to ten priority areas, and currently more than 50% supports international charitable projects.
The Foundation is now in the process of building the first phase of a four-phase campus to serve as its headquarters in Agoura Hills, California. The site was selected for its beauty and the overall quality of life within Agoura and its surrounding environs. The Foundation is committed to enhancing these community qualities by both the type of campus it constructs and by serving as a good neighbor. The site itself can serve as an educational resource where visitors can learn more about “building green,” the generation and use of renewable power, best practice uses of water and optimal use of native plant species in landscaping. The Foundation can also be a source of information and ideas by offering the expertise of its staff who can speak on a variety of topics at events sponsored or hosted by local non-profit organizations. The Foundation will be bringing new professional jobs to the local community which will be a boost to the local economy. The Foundation also encourages its staff to engage in volunteerism and community service.
Consistent with our desire to be a good neighbor and a good corporate citizen, once we are officially relocated to Agoura Hills, we will be developing guidelines for our philanthropic involvement, identifying the needs of the community as well as opportunities which may be complementary to our Foundation priorities. Until then, we will not be considering any unsolicited proposals, but we look forward to eventually working with local non-profit service providers.
